Softball Recap: Parkland Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Parkland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the El Dorado Aztecs on Friday, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Matadors have posted since February 27th.

Samantha Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Avila, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Lyric Batie was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Parkland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. El Dorado's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-5.

Looking ahead, Parkland will head out on the road to challenge Americas at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Americas will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Parkland surely won't give up without a fight. As for El Dorado, they will welcome Hanks at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hanks has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.09 runs per game on average), something El Dorado will no doubt try to take advantage of.
