Softball Recap: Wakefield School Fighting Owls vs. George C. Marshall Statesmen

Wakefield School had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-4 to make it five. They fell 8-4 to the George C. Marshall Statesmen. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Fighting Owls of the 6-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for George C. Marshall, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-7. Eight seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For George C. Marshall's part, Helen Kluesener spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Mikka Christensen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Manifor, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Coincidentally, Wakefield School and George C. Marshall will both be playing Washington-Liberty the next time they take the field. The Statesmen will head out to face the Generals at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Fighting Owls will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
