Baseball Game Preview: Sumner Spartans vs. Puyallup Vikings

The Sumner Spartans will challenge the Puyallup Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Friday, Sumner made easy work of Yelm and carried off an 8-2 win.

Meanwhile, Puyallup put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Spanaway Lake get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maxwell Schweyen looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Riley Sanoy was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (four). Noah Benedict was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Puyallup kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Puyallup pushed their record up to 12-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Sumner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
