Baseball Game Preview: Ida B. Wells Guardians vs. Jefferson Democrats

The Ida B. Wells Guardians are taking a road trip to face off against the Jefferson Democrats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Ida B. Wells and Cleveland, and Ida B. Wells kept the tradition alive. The Guardians blew past the Warriors 13-3 on Monday. Considering the Guardians' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jefferson). They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Franklin on Monday. The Democrats not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 21, 2025 (when they won 18-6).

Carlos B was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mario A, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Ida B. Wells pushed their record up to 10-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-11.

Everything went Ida B. Wells' way against Jefferson in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Ida B. Wells made off with a 16-4 win. Do the Guardians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Democrats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
