Baseball Game Preview: Valley Center Jaguars vs. Ramona Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Valley Center will face off against Ramona. The Jaguars will welcome the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Valley Center 3.8, Ramona 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Valley Center's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Ramona hitters got past them. The Jaguars lost 13-4 to the Bulldogs on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Ramona's part, Seth Gaines looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gaines has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tallon Ogilive was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Hollopeter, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Ramona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory (which was Ramona's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Center, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-6 record.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Valley Center has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ramona struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
