Basketball Game Preview: Hooper Bay Warriors vs. Petersburg Vikings

The Hooper Bay Warriors will take on the Petersburg Vikings in a tournament on Thursday. Hooper Bay is looking for their season's first victory.

Hooper Bay is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Chevak on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Hooper Bay was dealt a 66-37 loss at the hands of Chevak.

Meanwhile, Petersburg was not able to break out of their rough patch last Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 39-30 to Craig, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Panthers are ranked 16th).

Petersburg's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Hooper Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Hooper Bay was dealt a bruising 55-24 loss at the hands of Petersburg when the teams last played back in January of 2022. Can Hooper Bay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
