Baseball Game Preview: Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs vs. Riverdale Baptist Crusaders

Southern Maryland Christian Academy hasn't had much luck against Riverdale Baptist recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will head out to challenge the Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. Southern Maryland Christian Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

On Monday, Southern Maryland Christian Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over St. Mary's.

Malcolm Blaqman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Southern Maryland Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

Blaqman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jay (JP) Perry II, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Isaiah Priester also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matches.

Riverdale Baptist not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 27, 2024 (when they won 10-0). They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over DC International. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

The team relied heavily on DIXON MONK, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. EVAN SHERARD was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy's record now sits at 6-7. As for Riverdale Baptist, their record is now 12-6.
