Baseball Recap: Latta Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

Latta won the last time they faced Marion and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Vikings blew past the Swamp Foxes 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Logan Byrd and Seth Minshew did most of the damage at the plate: Byrd scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Minshew scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Byrd is becoming a predictor of Latta's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Covington, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Latta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Marion, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Latta will head out to face off against Johnsonville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Flashes have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Marion, they will face off against Manning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
