Football Recap: Luke Phillipi and Jackson Hosko Pace Coronado Defense + How To Watch

Coronado was the 42-6 winner over Maranatha Christian when they last played one another back in August of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Islanders took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles on Friday. The loss put an end to the Islanders' undefeated start to the season.

When it comes to explaining why Coronado lost, don't look at Chase Jenkins. Despite the final result, he rushed for 160 yards and two scores on only eight carries. Jenkins' longest rush was for an impressive 64 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Luke Phillipi made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Coronado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Phillipi and Jackson Hosko. Phillipi got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Leading Maranatha Christian to victory were Shane Piester and Hudson Heinrichs. Piester threw for 141 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes, while Heinrichs picked up 70 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Heinrichs also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making nine total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

Having lost for the first time this season, Coronado fell to 2-1. As for Maranatha Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Coronado wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 49-14 defeat against Mission Bay on the 19th. As for Maranatha Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-6 win against Foothills Christian on the 19th.
