Softball Recap: Boone Grove's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Boone Grove had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-7 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors 2-1. The Wolves have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Amanda Powell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Boone Grove's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mercedes Szakacs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That's the most hits Szakacs has posted since back in May of 2024.

Having lost for the first time this season, Hammond Bishop Noll fell to 4-1. The matchup marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

On Hammond Bishop Noll's side, Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. Espinosa is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Boone Grove wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against Illiana Christian on the 17th. As for Hammond Bishop Noll, they will head out on the road to face off against River Forest at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
