Volleyball Recap: Big Walnut Wins Going Away Against Teays Valley

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Big Walnut had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Teays Valley Vikings as they made off with a 3-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Golden Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Big Walnut was: they took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-14, 25-11.

Peyton Gordon was nothing short of spectacular: she had 13 digs and three aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Big Walnut was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in eight consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Teays Valley lost, don't look at Ellie Tatman. Despite the final result, she had 26 digs and two assists. Tatman has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 34 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Minton, who had nine assists and seven digs.

Big Walnut pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Teays Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

Big Walnut will square off against Worthington Kilbourne at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Teays Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
