Basketball Game Preview: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Effingham Hearts

The Mattoon Greenwave will head out to take on the Effingham Hearts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Mattoon saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 42-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vandalia.

Meanwhile, Effingham came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Eagles 48-31.

Mattoon has also been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Effingham, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.

Mattoon took a serious blow against Effingham in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 63-21. Can Mattoon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
