Basketball Recap: Lakota East Sets Scoring Season-High Against Middletown

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakota East). They claimed a resounding 72-39 win over the Middletown Middies. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-19.

Lakota East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Sturgill, who went 5 for 12 en route to 13 points and seven rebounds. Aubrey Barnedo also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Lakota East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Middletown still got an impressive performance from Leila Johnson, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jamia Jones, who posted five points and four blocks.

Lakota East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Middletown, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

Lakota East wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 54-39 win against Colerain on the 17th. As for Middletown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-42 defeat against Hamilton on the 18th.
