Softball Recap: Cory-Rawson Wins Going Away Against Kalida

The Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets made easy work of the Kalida Wildcats on Thursday and carried off a 15-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Hornets.

Katelyn Duffman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 12 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cory-Rawson got a massive performance out of Morgan McVetta, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those three runs gave McVetta a new career-high. Addyson Duffman was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.

Cory-Rawson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 15.8.

Cory-Rawson's record now sits at 6-14. As for Kalida, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.

Looking ahead, Cory-Rawson will square off against Upper Scioto Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kalida, they will take on Ottoville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Big Green at the right time seeing as the Big Green are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
