Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Tristen Gordon and Josiah Guyton Lead Bessemer City to Victory

Bessemer City made up a huge gap compared to their last game against East Gaston, but still couldn't quite topple them. The Bessemer City Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the East Gaston Warriors with a sharp 84-61 win on Friday. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Warriors are ranked 618th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Bessemer City to victory were Josiah Guyton and Tristen Gordon. Guyton dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, while Gordon shot 4-for-6 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine assists. With that strong performance, Guyton is now averaging an impressive 15.5 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Black, who posted 14 points and six assists.

Bessemer City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Bessemer City is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for East Gaston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bessemer City will challenge Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Gaston, they will face off against Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Gaston is facing Cherryville at the right time seeing as Cherryville is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
