Baseball Recap: Fossil Ridge Wins Going Away Against Poudre

Fossil Ridge came out on top against Poudre on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run second inning. The SaberCats were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Impalas. The result was nothing new for the SaberCats, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Connor Folkman looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Kephart, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brady Bradford, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Fossil Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .528 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Fossil Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Poudre, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Coming up, Fossil Ridge will host Rock Canyon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Poudre, they will head out to take on Denver East at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Angels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.78 runs per game on average), something the Impalas will no doubt try to take advantage of.
