Soccer Game Preview: Newsome vs. Alonso

The Newsome Wolves will face off against the Alonso Ravens at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Newsome is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

Newsome's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They won by a goal and slipped past Wharton 1-0. Given Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Wildcats are ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newsome's one-goal win came courtesy of Carter Chaney, who's now up to 12 this season.

Meanwhile, Alonso won against King on Friday with four goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. Alonso walked away with a 4-2 win over Hillsborough. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ravens.

Alonso has also been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those ten games. As for Newsome, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.

Newsome took their win against Alonso in their previous meeting back in November of 2017 by a conclusive 4-0. Will Newsome repeat their success, or does Alonso have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
