Recap: South Effingham Mustangs vs. Glynn Academy Terrors
After flying high against the Evans Knights last Saturday, the South Effingham Mustangs came back down to earth. South Effingham took a 54-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Glynn Academy on Tuesday. South Effingham was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Glynn Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, South Effingham saw an underclassman step up: Hayden Johanson scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Johanson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Justine Nevels, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Leading Glynn Academy to victory were Kyra Page and Martin Davis. Page scored 13 points along with five steals, while Davis dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Davis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mar'kuecia Burton, who scored eight points along with three steals.
South Effingham has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Glynn Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Effingham will take on Effingham County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Effingham County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Glynn Academy, they will be playing at home against Evans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Evans focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Saturday.
