Softball Recap: Washington Takes a Loss

Washington extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-16. They lost 11-0 to the Gibson Southern Titans. If the Hatchets were looking for revenge after losing 19-0 to the Titans when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Humphries, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Gibson Southern, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

On Gibson Southern's side, Brooklyn Turpin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Turpin has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Potts, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerson Walker, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington will challenge Bloomfield at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hatchets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Gibson Southern, they will take on Evansville Reitz at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
