Softball Recap: Spring Grove Takes a Loss

After some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three contests, Spring Grove finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Houston Hurricanes. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Hurricanes: they've now lost nine in a row.

Claire Sherburne spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

Spring Grove now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Houston, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Looking ahead, Spring Grove will venture away from home to square off against Lyle/Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.08 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Houston, they will face off against Mabel-Canton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
