Volleyball Recap: Webster's Run of 25 Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of 25 wins, Webster's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 3-1 to the Grantsburg Pirates. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 25-21 in the first set.

Webster started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19.

Their offense was headlined by Brooke Wolf and Lilyanne Jacobs, who picked up 15 kills apiece. They got some help from Dana Jackson and her 20 assists. Avery Hetfeld controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Webster's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 28-2. As for Grantsburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Webster and Grantsburg should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 68th) will meet Frederic (ranked 376th) at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Grantsburg will face off against Siren at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (87 vs. 411).
