Basketball Recap: Edgewood Takes a Loss

Edgewood was the 50-21 winner over Mineola when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Edgewood Bulldogs took a 33-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mineola Yellowjackets on Friday.

Despite the defeat, Edgewood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Carmen Smith went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Smith a new career-high.

Edgewood has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season. As for Mineola, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-13 record this season.

Edgewood will venture away from home to challenge Grand Saline at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mineola, they will welcome Malakoff at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Mineola has won six straight at home, while Malakoff won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
