Softball Recap: Mojave Takes a Loss

Mojave extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-4. They lost 25-2 to the Del Oro Suns. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Del Oro, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-8. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season so far.

For Del Oro's part, Lynneah Garza was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Garza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yenitze Estrada, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yuliana Barajas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mojave will welcome Trona at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tornadoes have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Del Oro, they will be playing at home against Wonderful College Prep Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
