Football Recap: Thomas Jefferson Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Thomas Jefferson can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 40-7 loss at the hands of the Riverdale Ridge Ravens. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Ravens are ranked 25th).

Even if they lost, Thomas Jefferson's defensive line still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Marcus Spearman and Zane Bath, who racked up four sacks between them. Spearman is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last five games he's played.

It was another big night for Diego Galvan, who rushed for 265 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry for Riverdale Ridge. Galvan was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Dean Presswood, who rushed for 83 yards and one TD on only ten carries.

This is the second loss in a row for Thomas Jefferson and nudges their season record down to 5-6. As for Riverdale Ridge, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.

Thomas Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Riverdale Ridge, they are taking a road trip to square off against Monarch at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 886 yards in their previous games.
