Brady Jones was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jones was also big at the plate, scoring two runs.
In other batting news, Tyce Bucy stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored a run while going 2-for-4. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Crotz, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Morton came tearing into Monday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Redbirds by a score of 5-1.
Ryan Schaffnit spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brandon Sieben, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Ballard, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Morton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Metamora, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Metamora came up short against Morton when the teams last played on Monday, falling 5-1. Can the Redbirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
