Basketball Recap: Jamestown Eagles vs. Warhill Lions
The Jamestown Eagles put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Warhill 54-39. That's another feather in the cap for Jamestown, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jamestown found their leader in underclassman Maddie Leach, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Leach is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Raini Mayo, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Warhill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was D'Shela Walker, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Mary Drakes was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Jamestown pushed their record up to 15-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Warhill, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jamestown is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. New Kent will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 254th, while the Eagles are ranked 42nd). As for Warhill, they will head out on the road to square off against the Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
