Gerstell Academy came tearing into Monday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 56-50 victory over the Chapelgate Christian Academy Yellowjackets. Given Gerstell Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Chapelgate Christian Academy is ranked 160th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chapelgate Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Plater, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks. Plater is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Milledge, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and five boards.

Gerstell Academy's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.9 points per game. As for Chapelgate Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Gerstell Academy will take on Severn School at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. As for Chapelgate Christian Academy, they will challenge Saint John Paul the Great Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
