Torres is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Hoover is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Toros will host the Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Torres barely beat Madera South the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Toros blew past the Stallions 16-5 on Tuesday. The Toros haven't had any issues with the Stallions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, Hoover got themselves on the board against San Joaquin Memorial on Wednesday, but San Joaquin Memorial never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 26-0 margin over the Panthers. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Hazel Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hoover got a massive performance out of Layla Jimenez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Jimenez a new career-high. Keilana Duron was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI.
Hoover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Torres back to even at 11-11. As for Hoover, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
