Football Game Preview: Troup Tigers vs. Winona Wildcats

Troup is 7-1 against Winona since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will welcome the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Troup has six straight victories, Winona has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Troup blew past Elkhart, posting a 47-2 win. Considering the Tigers have won four contests by more than 35 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Brett Wells, who rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josh Childress, who threw for 221 yards and three TDs while completing 73.7% of his passes.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Troup proved: they limited Elkhart to a paltry one yards per carry. While three picked up at least five total tackles, Wells stood above the rest. He rushed for 156 yards and three scores on only 12 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Troup didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.9.

Meanwhile, Winona fell victim to West Rusk and their airtight defense on Friday. They were outmatched by the Raiders and fell 48-0. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1082nd, while the Raiders are ranked 290th).

Troup's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Winona, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Troup against Winona when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 50-6 win. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
