Basketball Recap: Vandegrift Takes a Loss

Vandegrift lost against Lake Creek back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Vandegrift Vipers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to the Lake Creek Lions. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vipers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Lions are ranked 428th).

Lake Creek found their leader in sophomore Axel Anderson, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. The dominant performance gave Anderson a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Melancon, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 12 points.

With the defeat, Vandegrift broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-6. As for Lake Creek, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Vandegrift wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-45 victory against Hendrickson on the 28th. Lake Creek has also already played their next contest, a 63-55 loss against Del Valle on the 28th.
