Baseball Recap: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Stockdale Brahmas
Nixon-Smiley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 4-1 to the Stockdale Brahmas. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 8-0 to the Brahmas when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Julian Amaya put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Amaya was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases.
Amaya wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Federico Vazquez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Nixon-Smiley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Stockdale, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7-1 record this season.
Nixon-Smiley will take on Luling at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Luling has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something Nixon-Smiley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Stockdale, they will venture away from home to square off against Poth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Poth will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
