Senior quarterback led Bullitt East to Class 6A state championship.
Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Travis Egan of
Bullitt East (Mt. Washington) is the 2022 MaxPreps Kentucky High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior quarterback helped the Chargers go 14-1 and capture the Class 6A state championship.
Down seven with under a minute to play in the 6A title game Saturday against Male, Egan led Bullitt East 80 yards down the field and threw a touchdown with 53 seconds left. Down 27-26, the Chargers lined up for two and Egan caught the two-point conversion on a "Philly Special" to win 28-27.
Egan threw four of his 35 touchdowns in that game and finished the season with 2,935 passing yards while completing 66.2 percent of his throws. The dual-threat quarterback was also dangerous on the ground, producing 979 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Holding offers from NCAA Division II programs Kentucky Wesleyan and Charleston, Egan broke his father Brandon’s career passing yardage school record with 6,753. He threw for 78 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions as the signal caller at Bullitt East.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released January 10.
