Softball Recap: Crowley Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Crowley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past the Welsh Greyhounds 14-12. For the Gent, this counts as revenge for the 9-6 victory the Greyhounds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.

Zailey Smith made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Erika Hebert, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February. Zoe Giles was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Crowley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Welsh is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Crowley has already played their next game, an 11-1 loss against Mamou on the 25th. As for Welsh, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-4 win against Singer on the 22nd.
