Basketball Game Preview: Bayfield Wolverines vs. Pagosa Springs Pirates

Bayfield is 0-10 against Pagosa Springs since February of 2020 but things could change on Saturday. The Bayfield Wolverines will face off against the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Bayfield is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Montezuma-Cortez on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Bayfield was outmatched by Montezuma-Cortez and fell 59-26. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-10.

Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 38-30 to Alamosa.

Bayfield will have to contain Elizabeth Currier as she made an impact in Pagosa Springs' last game. She posted 14 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Currier is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amber Snarr, who scored five points and four steals.

Bayfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Pagosa Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.

Bayfield was dealt a bruising 51-20 loss at the hands of Pagosa Springs in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Currier, who put up 19 points and five steals. Now that Bayfield knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
