Basketball Game Preview: Kit Carson Wildcats vs. Springfield Longhorns

Kit Carson and Springfield are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Kit Carson Wildcats will take on the Springfield Longhorns in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Friday, Kit Carson came up short against Miami-Yoder and fell 47-40. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Josiah Irwin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Mason Marriott, who posted 15 points.

Meanwhile, Springfield suffered their closest loss since January 30th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Wiley by a score of 44-41. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Springfield now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Kit Carson, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Kit Carson lost to Springfield on the road by a decisive 44-30 margin in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Springfield's Colby Batterton, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards.
