Softball Game Preview: Lake Gibson Braves vs. Discovery Spartans

The Lake Gibson Braves will face off against the Discovery Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Lake Gibson fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mulberry on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-7 to the Panthers. The Braves haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Nadine Lewis spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kylie Vazquez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Harwell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Discovery was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They came up short against All Saints' Academy, falling 19-1.

Lake Gibson now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Discovery, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Lake Gibson took their win against Discovery in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 18-0 score. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
