Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Big Walnut Golden Eagles
Mt. Vernon and Big Walnut squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Mt. Vernon had to settle for second. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Eagles. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Mt. Vernon got a good showing from Jagger Dohn, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dohn has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ezra Kurek made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Big Walnut, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.
