Carson Phillips was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Phillips wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Bruce, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run marked the first that Bruce scored this season.
Meanwhile, Sandhills Classical Christian gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Lee Christian.
John Tuepker was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bernie Geffen, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Sandhills Classical Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lee Christian only posted an OBP of .417.
Sandhills Classical Christian's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Antioch Christian Academy, they now also have a losing record of 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Antioch Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sandhills Classical Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Antioch Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Sandhills Classical Christian when the teams last played last Friday, winning 14-11. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
