Baseball Recap: Beaver Triumphs

Beaver took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hopewell, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Beaver skirted past Hopewell 2-1. This was payback for the Bobcats, who suffered a 15-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Ty Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Derek Hughes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Beaver pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average this season. As for Hopewell, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Beaver beat Hopewell by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday.
