Softball Recap: Marquette Extends Winning Streak to Four

Marquette entered their tilt with Hall on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 17-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Taylor Cuchra made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run.

In other batting news, Makayla Backos was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kinley Rick was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Marquette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hall only posted an OBP of .222.

Marquette's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Hall, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Marquette and Hall could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Crusaders will face off against Seneca at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (128 vs. 22). Meanwhile, Hall (ranked 489th) will meet Riverdale (ranked 52nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
