Softball Recap: Bloomington Purple Raiders vs. Mt. Zion Braves
Bloomington had won three straight at home, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 14-3 to make it four. They won by a run and slipped past the Mt. Zion Braves 3-2. This was payback for the Purple Raiders, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Reilly Vetter spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Lauren Shuey was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
As for Mt. Zion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-9. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.
On Mt. Zion's side, they also let their pitcher toss all 7.2 innings and she was also dialed-in: Nikki Ellegood gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Addy Rotz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Coming up, Bloomington will face off against Rantoul at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mt. Zion, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Williamsville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
