Baseball Recap: Portsmouth Christian Academy Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mascenic Regional, Portsmouth Christian Academy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over the Concord Christian Kingsmen. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Kingsmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Grady Howe and Cai Summers were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Howe struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Summers tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Howe has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Howe got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Summers went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Summers is becoming a predictor of Portsmouth Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Portsmouth Christian Academy let Landon Hasty and Zech Beal run wild. Hasty went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Beal went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Portsmouth Christian Academy's record is now 11-5. As for Concord Christian, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-5.

Portsmouth Christian Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Kingsmen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
