Softball Recap: Muncie Central Bearcats vs. Delta Eagles
Muncie Central had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it 14. They came up short against the Delta Eagles, falling 19-5. The Bearcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Delta, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-10. The game marked their most dominant win of the season.
For Delta's part, Haley Loser and Kaitlynn Burns made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Loser pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Burns pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Loser has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Loser went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Burns went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave Burns a new career-high.
In other batting news, Delta got a massive performance out of Caidyn Freiburger, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Freiburger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Destinee Drown, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Coming up, Muncie Central will face off against Richmond at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Delta, they will square off against Wapahani at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
