Softball Recap: Falfurrias' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Falfurrias can bid farewell to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Monday. They put the hurt on the Monte Alto Blue Devil with a sharp 21-3 win. The Fightin' Jerseys' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kaitlyn Mireles was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrina Trevino, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Simplicity Chapa was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Falfurrias kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.6.

Falfurrias' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-16. As for Monte Alto, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coincidentally, Falfurrias and Monte Alto will both be playing IDEA Edinburg College Prep the next time they take the field. Monte Alto will head out to face IDEA Edinburg College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th, while Falfurrias will host them at 7:00 p.m. on March 28th.
