Basketball Recap: Southwest Onslow Extends Winning Streak to Three

After losing to James Kenan the last time they met, Southwest Onslow decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Southwest Onslow Stallions secured a 39-34 W over the James Kenan Tigers on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Stallions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Southwest Onslow's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oriyanna Galloway, who posted 14 points in addition to six assists and six steals. Galloway is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Khimara Dorsey, who scored eight points along with 23 boards and four steals.

Southwest Onslow smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, James Kenan had strong showings from Y'Anna Rivers, who had nine points in addition to four steals and four blocks, and Aleyah Wilson, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points and eight rebounds. Gabriel Outlaw was another key player, putting up six points.

Southwest Onslow's record is now 11-7. As for James Kenan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Coming up, Southwest Onslow will host East Duplin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Duplin's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Southwest Onslow's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for James Kenan, they will venture away from home to take on Wallace-Rose Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. James Kenan is facing Wallace-Rose Hill at the right time seeing as Wallace-Rose Hill is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
