Softball Recap: Lakewood Continues Road Dominance on Monday

Lakewood won against Bellingham on Friday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Cougars walked away with a 7-4 win over the Blaine Borderites. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Katie Krueger was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Hite, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Cassidy Wolfe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Lakewood pushed their record up to 6-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Blaine, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will head out to face off against Squalicum at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Blaine, they are taking a road trip to challenge Anacortes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Seahawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.47 runs per game on average), something the Borderites will no doubt try to take advantage of.
