Softball Recap: McCutcheon Takes a Loss

McCutcheon dropped their record down to 6-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Plainfield Quakers, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Mavericks, who until this matchup were averaging four runs allowed.

Kaidynn Peckinpaugh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

As for Plainfield, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

On Plainfield's side, Kami Arnett was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Arnett was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ayva Mayes, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Sydney Sauri was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Plainfield beat McCutcheon by a score of 5-4 later that day.
