Baseball Recap: Elyria Comes Up Short

Elyria extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-15. They came up short against the Berea-Midpark Titans, falling 18-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 on Monday.

As for Berea-Midpark, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Berea-Midpark's part, Lionel Skernivitz was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Skernivitz also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Berea-Midpark is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-12 otherwise. Skernivitz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Tommy Burke was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Shrefler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.
