North Newton had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Clay City Eels on Friday, sneaking past 2-0. Give the Spartans' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's ninth straight shutout.

Not much got past Sydney Rainford, who gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Clay City off the board. Rainford has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 23 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North Newton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macy Busboom, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Busboom has posted since back in May.

North Newton's record now sits at 24-3-1. As for Clay City, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 21-7 record.

As of now, neither North Newton nor the Eels have any future games scheduled.
