Recap: Thomas Stone Cougars vs. Westlake Wolverines
Even though the Thomas Stone Cougars have not done well against the Westlake Wolverines recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Thomas Stone managed a 41-37 victory over Westlake. For Thomas Stone, this counts as revenge for the 38-27 defeat Westlake walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Thomas Stone found their leader in underclassman Michaiah Smith, who scored 20 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Makaiya Tucker, who scored 15 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds.
Westlake's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Raynna Ratchford, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Caila Alexander was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Even though they lost, Westlake were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thomas Stone only pulled down six.
Thomas Stone's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing St. Charles the next time they take the court. Thomas Stone will head out to face St. Charles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Westlake will host them at 5:30 p.m. on December 15th.
